The Gift of Years

I am a WOMAN now, no longer a girl.
A daughter and at the same time a woman.
I have learned to speak up and speak out,
and to let MY VOICE be heard in the forest.
It is time for me to take my place in the circle
of WOMANHOOD,
and claim my title as SURVIVOR, WARRIOR, GROWN ONE, EAGLE, MOTHER EARTH.
I am entitled to the gray hair on my head.
I have earned the bags under my eyes.
I have won the right to the scar across my belly.
I have been to HELL and back,
and GOD accompanied me throughout the journey.
My days of being a SWEET YOUNG THING are over.
I prefer being a WOMAN.

Remind Me, O God

When I am tempted to doubt
myself and question my gifts and experiences, O God,
Remind me of all that I know
and those things that I don’t know that I know,
Remind me of who I am and Whose I am
even When I hide behind my piety
to avoid doing what must be done
and use You as an excuse
for indecision
for lack of action
for silencing my own self.
Love me enough to lift the lid off my
basket and order me to stop crouching in the dark
like a woman without a God!
